DARK MAGIC

Dark Magic improves the appearance of panels operating at less than their maximum brightness, reducing banding and increasing detail in dark areas.

DESIGNED FOR INDOOR AND
ON-CAMERA APPLICATIONS

LED panels are usually designed to maximise brightness for
outdoor usage. But often these panels are run at substantially lower brightness than their maximum, such as for indoor and ‘on-camera’ applications.

This results in an unavoidable reduction in effective bit depth, which can lead to visible artefacts such as banding and loss of detail, especially in dark areas of the image.

UP TO 26 BIT PER COLOUR PROCESSING

Dark Magic helps to alleviate these issues by processing the video signal at up to 26 bits per channel (78 bits per pixel) within the Tessera R2 receiver card.

The effective bit depth of the output can then be increased, resulting in more visually-pleasing images even at very low brightnesses.

USING DARK MAGIC

Below are two unretouched photographs of identical LED panels displaying a low-brightness image. One is without Dark Magic, where banding is clearly visible in the lake and sky. The second is with Dark Magic enabled - the gradients are smoother, and there is increased detail in the darker areas such as trees and islands.
